I woke up today to a lovely, cool
morning (something of a surprise in Chennai). As I stood admiring the early
morning breeze, I felt that this was the part of the day which I looked forward
to. But didn’t I get the same thought last night when I gratefully hit the
pillow, glad that the long, sweaty day was over. Hmm. Now there is a contest
about which is the best part of the day – morning time, sleep time and….. Yes,
there is a third contestant – lunch time (sluurrp)!! So standing there, on my
terrace, I relieved each of those hours of the day and tried to decide the
winner.
Morning – isn’t it just wonderful to
be up early morning? The soft light is perfect on your eyes, the air so fresh
it fills you with hope. The birds seem to be the happiest, chirping away gaily,
practicing their songs. The koyal beats them all with its melody. This music is
slowly followed by the sounds of the stirring household downstairs. The whiff
of brewing tea and breakfast! The morning hour has the promise of the whole day
ahead with lots of time to accomplish things, talk with loved ones and the
probably adventure of doing something new!
Lunch – One would wonder why a meal
time would come to the list of favorite part of the day! Well, it is because of
the good of course! I love eating, hence lunch becomes that much important. It
is the only meal in the day that has a lot of variety. Also you are the
hungriest at this time and can eat your fill (& maybe more) without guilt.
You have to read this after having a sumptuous lunch of your favorite dishes to
understand my feeling! The way I look forward to the noon lunch time and the
contentment I feel afterwards is just wonderful. A better read person might
scorn at this and say that this is a perfect example of instant gratification.
But I would desist from argument, because I would beat him in logic – food,
after all is a basic requirement of living beings J
Night – Do I really need to talk about
this? I mean who doesn’t love it when the long day of work and problems end,
and one can escape into oblivion for 8 hours. I think sleep is the one of the
major reasons for a person to remain sane. He is free from the never ending
chatter of the mind, which is always instructing and chiding him about things.
The night is full of darkness and silence, both lulling you to give in to sweet
slumber and enter the magical world of dreams. That’s the reason why I love
sleeping so much. I dream so much and it is full of stories – short, exciting
and real! My husband says that I would make a good story teller if I could
remember all my dreams J
So now it’s the time to choose the
winner. And the award goes to...............
Night:-)
